John,

In addition, I remember some disagreement with Bob Brinker's bear call on this thread not too long ago. I don't see anyone knocking him these days <ggg>.

Best regards,
John

John, PCs and Windows are old fashion! Digital cameras, MP3 Players, DVDs, new Palms and Handsprings and personal digital assistants combined with a cell, plus a host of other electronic appliances are new fashion . Have you heard about Nokia's pocket-size 9210 Communicator? (It's even in color.)

us.news2.yimg.com

It isn't available in the US but when it is, I might like one.

Until then, it is unlikely that I will trade in my 10-year-old CPQ Presario with Windows 95 for a new PC and another cumbersome and buggy version of Windows. I'd rather stuff my Christmas stocking with new fashion toys. A new color scanner would be nice. And I wouldn't mind a color printer either. Last year, I added a fax.

Even Barbie comes with a chip these days and so do many other dolls? As you probably know, the new fashion toys have chips but they aren't DRAM CHIPS and not all the semi-makers make the dram chips that are used in PCs. Texas Instruments, for example, is the largest telecommunication chip maker in the US, but TI doesn't make dram chips.

Unfortunately, many market analysts are unable to differentiate the dram makers from those semi-players that do not make chips for the old fashion PCs. I think this could be one reason why there has been so much confusion in the semi-conductor industry.

On the other hand, a few market analysts have recently recognized that the old fashion toys will have to compete with the new fashion toys this Christmas and down the road as well.

Perhaps this is one reason that the Gateways and the Dells won't be on everyone's shopping list this Christmas season.

Best Wishes for the Holidays!
