I'd have to agree that Austin's spate of conspicuous consumption is going to slow considerably.

First tell will be checking out the lines (if any) at the shmancy new restaurants in town. As you know, we've had a bunch open recently, and with the state of DELL, MOT, INTC, VIGN, and the various dot.bombs in town, wondering who will be picking up those $50+ per dinner tabs.

Reliable reports from "professional shoppers" indicate that stores in town over the weekend were remarkably un-busy, even Lakeline Mall.

Once SUNW gets its required 50% haircut from all-time high, it will be time to add, IMO. All tech stocks must be lined up and shorn by at least 50% in order for former irrational exurberance to be eradicated. SUNW is a big hold out. (CSCO almost made it, $82 high versus $44 low, and IBM and CPQ were early adopters of the 50% rule.) Almost every other tech issue has now been to the barber shop this year and received the required clipping. (Took awhile for the opticals and storage guys, but they finally showed up this month and got real buzz cuts.)

Not impressed with today's rather pathetic attempt to rally off the lows, although it was probably good to see pretty decent volume after similar drops on much lower volume.
