Right...Merit Pay is a sham. It overlooks people that urinate on themselves, have poor attendance, poor work habits and the company could actually save money by paying them to stay home.

You're living within a union paradigm. Paradigm shifts.

Speaking of shams -- I venture that "high achievers" who come to the favorable attention of management by doing more than the union negotiated contract calls for are not looked on kindly by the union. No doubt there are many exceptions.

IMO, this is the same social contract we see enforced in many inner city public schools where it is an offense to the rank and file to do well. In this regard, the DC schools are funded at, I think, number three nationally among states. The student teacher ratios are in the teens. The faculties have a very high percentage of advanced degrees. And yet -- the percentage of students reading and doing math at or above grade level is in single digits - in some cases, a fraction of a percent.

Don't take my word for it. The detailed stats are available on-line through the Washington Post web site.

BTW, you sound like a reverse elitist - a member of the noble worker and peasant class so celebrated by communist regimes.

All work is good. Yours and mine. You don't have to get your hands dirty to hold your head high. Even the friggin' lawyers (sorry, some of you guys) work their balls off from time to time.
