"There's a simple reason Chambers chose to speak to attendees at the Western Cable 2000 show here: Cisco has made huge bets on the technologies that will serve up the variety of interactive services the cable companies plan to offer in the coming years."

elmatador- Very cool. I wonder if this may be a first for Chambers. To speak at a cableco show? I hope what he says has some meaning to the executives at the show listening in. Yes indeed. It's a head-head battle between the cablecos and the telcos. That's my number one reason that I do not believe ADSL is dead in the residential market. 110 million homes. 50 million or so are on slow dial-up connections. Only 5 million have high speed today. So that leaves a LOT of customers that are potential subscribers of whoever is first/best.

The business market I'm not so sure of. You have a good point about telcos eating their own more lucrative T1 and higher revenues with DSL. And if telcos don't have competition, then why roll it out. BUT that's what the excitement is about fixed wireless.

My concern is that I'm either missing the stats, or fixed wireless is not rolling out in enough numbers for the stats firms to generate numbers. This has me concerned. -MikeM(From Florida)
