An example of increased productivity coming due to the Internet and therefore the computer.

Last night I met the VP Marketing for a new .com in academic publishing. They will publish academic papers - like the kind of stuff assistant and associate professors need to gain tenor and promotion - over the net. They will do everything over the net, including editing and publishing. They've signed up some top academic editors (sure stock option possibilities helped) to attract some top professors to get the ball rolling.

Among increases in productivity, they will reduce time to publish from current 24 months (average or maximum, I'm not sure) to 2 months. Also, reduces paper costs, transportation costs, etc.

They will be publishing their first papers this month.

I will be checking in with the VP over the next year to see how the new service is rolling out. Also wonder how high-speed wireless connectivity might play here once it is available?
