You're forgetting that Intel's chips also use too much power to run at 850MHZ on battery. AMD's chip would run at 600MHZ on battery (just like Intel's does) but be sold as a 1GHZ chip (just as Intel advertises their 600MHZ portable chips at their 850MHZ plugged in speed ratings).

Tony,

The performance of an Athlon 600MHz mobile will be a little better than a PIII 600MHz mobile.

There is no reason why the "process" would have any problems doing this.
