To: Mephisto who wrote (40357 ) 12/3/2000 8:20:41 PM From: Grashopper Read Replies (1) | Respond to The former Miami Mayor was XAVIER SUAREZ , A ARTICULATE engineer grad from Villanova and a law degree from Harvard.........he had been Mayor for about 3 terms perhaps 8 0r more years before and was considered to be a dynamic force behind Miami's then recovery inc. building the Miami Arena and bringing in the Miami Heat.boTh Latins and ANGLOS WERE comfortable with him back then.......he left office after 2 or 3 terms on his own volition and joined a prestigious old MIAMI Anglo law firm ; SHUTTS and Bowen who sought promising Latins as other mainline Miami lawfirms were doing........the problem was SHUTTS AND BOWEN ALSO hired a baby faced new County COMMISSIONER'AGE 30' NAMED Alex Pinellas, a rare CUBAN American Democrat......Xavier was a Republican. about 50 at the time..........in the meantime the city of MIAMI SELECTED ''CRAZY Joe Carollo also a Republican as Mayor with SUAREZ' BLESSING,,,,,,,,,during this period my teen ageddaughter begged me for tickets to Garth Brooks at the city owned arena...........i asked my friend Suarez and he immediately sent me with a note to Carollo; the new MAYOR WHO IMMEDIATELY FOUND MY DAUGHTER TICKETS TO THE SOLDOUT CONCERT........SO WE HAD 2 Republican one the peresent MAYOR AND THE OTHER THE FORMER AND THEY were allies......well a couple of years go by and the voters pass a charter amdt giving the COUNTY A FULLTIME STRONG mAYOR WHEREAS before the County had a weak Mayor and a stronge county Manager who ran the show.........the strong Mayor fulltime for a County with a larger budget then 37 states in the USA..was a prize immediately sought by 30year old Alex Pinellas and 50 year old Xavier Suarez.......Xavier demanded that their law firm direct that he with a track record and maturity should be the candidate and baby faCED PINELLAS SHOULD NOT RUN AND SUPPORT HIS PARTNER; Suarez as the firm's candidate.......the firm haggled and haggled and in the end took no position leaving the old and young partner on their own to slug it out..........Suarez was confident as he was from Miami ; the county's largest city(pinellas was from Hialeah not quite as large)';Suarez was Republican as most Cubans are and finally it was a man against a boy and many felt that Suarez had paid his dues and Pinellas haD not.....but it didn;t happen that way and Pinellas carried the day to the total humilation of Suarez who regarded it as a affront to his machismo ; pride; and intellect........Suarez dummped his neutral lawfirm and started acting sufficiently out of focus to the extent that many of his old allies and friends thought he lost his balance of normalcy inc, the media,,,,,,,,,,,he just couldn't handle that a kid young enuf to be his son beat him for the new sTRONG mayor of Dade COUNTY........TO SAVE FACE AND MAYBE SANITY suarez announces his return to city of MIAMI POLITICS RUNNING FOR mayor there against his old friend ;Carollo who now had built up a incumbents advantage................at thiS point IN THE CONDUCTING OF THE ELECTION BATTLE AGAINST SUAREZ allegedly LOSES his mind AND CONVINCES EVEN GOOD FRIENDS IT'S TIME TO SEE A SHRINK..........MOST OF THE power elite in Miami are so afraid of the new irrational Suarez that they prefer Crazy Joe Carollo ; a devil they were allready familar with over this new wildman Suarez,,,,,,fwiw Xavier's personality change from his prior Mayorship kind of reminded me of the tv show; the incredible hulk where the guy changed before your very eyes............nothwithstanding all the foregoing Suarez wins the race; swears his oath of office and starts being MIAMI mayor inc. a trip to NYC to improve the city's bond rating; visit ST PATS AND Ed Koch; a odd quniella........upon his return Carollo challenges the absentee ballots where identifying info was added to the envelope just like the Republicans just did in Seminole COUNTY......THE trial Judge writefully imho saw thru this irregularity and ordered a new election..........but Carollo sought a appeal and the appeal Court agreed with the trial's court finding of messing with absentee ballots and simply struck all the absentee ballots and declared Carollo the winner and this guy is now Mayor of Miami with less then a majority by Judicial overreaching in a big way and no one really complained because they figured this new unpredictable Suarez would be a danger to the community as Mayor in his present state of mind........in short they couldn't chance another election because they would be stuck with a irrational SUAREZ AGAIN.............NOW IMHO opinion a meddlesome Court trying to keep a nervous breakdown guy out of office has created horrible FLA. PRECEDENT which if followed as authority will invalidate Bush's questionable wrongly altered absentee ballots in Seminole County.....the Seminole case is not brought by Gore but bY Gerald Richman; a former Pres. of the Fla. BAR AND a attorney not to be lighty regasrded.......imho this case is the sleeper that coUld topple BUSH BECAUSE OF THE PRECEDENT OF THE suarez case when negating ballots changed the results.....if the Suarez case is law; Bush has a problem and none of this is currently being argued in Tallahassee so it remains as a future beartrap for Bush
