Roger,

Well said. There needs to be an appearance of fairness. It remains to be seen how the Republicans lines since the election, namely, that manual recounts are completely chaotic and biased and should never be done, and that there has been recount after recount anyway, will play with the public.

I think observation of the Bush campaign shows that they will take a win however they can get it. I'm sure as a McCain supporter you remember South Carolina.

I still find it hard to believe that the Republican Party had a genuine popular groundswell behind the candidacy of John McCain, and they crushed him to gather behind the glorious banners of ... George W. Bush? I mean, what a slacker.

One question for you: does it seem to you that the Republican commentariat has gone off the deep end on this issue? Commentators like Paul Gigot, Peggy Noonan, and George Will began screaming about "stealing elections" and "ferocity gaps" and "defending the country" from the day after the election. How do you steal a tied election? Why is it treachery and sedition to ask for a recount?

This whole affair is playing out as Impeachment, Round II...

Roger, you wrote:

the picture is very clear that a proper counting of the vote would have yielded a Gore victory and that the GOP state government has done, and continues to do, everything possible to delay and prevent accurate counting.

Your opinion is very clear, sir. But I wonder if you would be so kind as to present some facts to support your opinion. What is a "proper counting"? What has the "GOP state government" done to "delay and prevent accurate counting"?
