btw, it doesn't matter where the NQ is trading itself. the init/maint margin is a set margin.

Interactive Brokers also has a "demo" mode.
Patricks reference looks cleaner (if I recall it properly), but IB's TWS demo mode works well, and it has instant margin calcs and m2m so you can see your position in RT.
(the other demo probably does too)

(btw, to lose $6000 on one NQ contract means the NQ drops 300 pts... that's quite a loose stop... i might suggest to tighten that up a bit <VBG>)

You might want to start with E-Mini trading, it's less erratic.

Also, it may take them awhile to get you the password. I applied Thursday and got it Friday. Did not set up until the weekend so this is my first look at it. Seems okay.

Won't really know how fast it is until I try the real one. The fill once was slow, but I was trading a 5 lot that time and I think they did a cross-check against my funny money account to check to see if I had enough margin. The first two trades were one lots and they filled right away.

Well, I get bored quick....have to drop that thing and do some work, see you later.
