You realize, of course, that if we didn't have the Electoral College the national popular vote was so close that EVERY precinct in EVERY state would have to be recounted. There would be potential for election theft, for ballot interpretation, for lawsuits not just in Florida but in all 50 states plus D.C. Right now, there's no point in recounting all of California or New York because there is no realistic chance that Bush could get enough votes there to win those states electoral votes.

And what an opportunity for election theft if any precinct in any state could sway the presidential election by slipping in votes for one or the other candidate.

It would make this mess look like a walk in the park.

Thank God for the Electoral College!
