TG, no one seems to have noticed that, in an effort to get more Gigamines, Intel has raised the Vcc to 1.76 volts on Coppermines with a "B" designation. Yet the voltage ID pins on these new Gigamines call for 1.7 volts. If the power supply delievers 1 millivolt too little voltage, the "B" version won't work. (Anything above 1.8 and its a crispy critter.) Of course, this means that special motherboards are needed for the "B" version, since a normal motherboard would supply 1.7 volts +- 0.05 volts, giving you a 51% chance of a working system. The thermal problem with this unit is even worse than the original Gigamine, since to dissipates an extra 3 watts but still needs to keep Tj at 70C or lower. This very much reminds me of original 0.35 K6 at end of life. Remember there were special 2.4 volt parts made just for some OEM's? Paul hooted about that for weeks. The Intel November datasheet in which I discoverd the "B" part is linked to at developer.intel.com The direct link to the datasheet is ftp://download.intel.com/design/PentiumIII/datashts/24526407.pdf The datasheet refers to an S-spec "SL4WM." It appears that my access to Intel specs has been blocked, perhaps someone else can find the s-spec document. Petz
