Scumbria,

re: "The judge made it clear. Prove that a recount will give you the election, and then we can do the recount. What a moron."

That's the Florida law. A good lawyer would be able to find a good statistician that could "prove" that. The lawyers didn't do their job.

re: "I don't see how the absentee ballot case can lose for Gore, short of massive corruption in the FL judiciary (which of course is not out of the question.)"

I see you are preparing to throw the blame.

I think that a (rare) neutral observer would conclude that the Florida folks have been non-partisan, especially the local election boards. The exception, IMHO, is the Secretary of State. Which is too bad.

In a strange way, I think it's very American, and sort of cool, that a minor circuit court judge from Tallahassee, Florida has made the decision that will lead to the end of this Presidential and historic "event". If he doesn't get over-ruled I will feel better about this whole process. It's reassuring that a relatively common citizen can still receive and deserve the nations confidence.

Do you understand what I mean?

John

Scumbria, the fact is, there is NO statistical evidence that Gore voters are more likely to be bad punchers than Bush voters. In fact, a greater proprotion of Bush voters in Broward county failed to punch their ballots properly than Gore voters.

This is an INCONTESTABLE FACT which you would rather not hear.

Accounting for the fact that Broward has already been recounted, Bush has MORE VOTES IN THE PUNCHCARD BALLOT COUNTIES THAN GORE.

The Gore team also failed to give any evidence that the number of chads in a voting device came anywhere near the amount required to prevent a punch. In fact, I heard absolutely NO testimony about how many chads fit in the volume of space alloted to them.

Did they present a statistical graph showing an increasingly higher number of undervotes as votes per voting device increased? No, absolutely not, just "this is possible" and "that is possible."

Well, its possible for a monkey to accidentally type Shakespeare also.
