From the THIS COUNTRY IS CRAZY Dept: On October 20, 1997, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated a lawsuit against Aloha Island Air for refusing to hire a pilot who is blind in one eye. Last Friday, the Hawaii Civil Rights Commission awarded the pilot, Bruce Pied, an eye-popping (groan...) $1.4 million in compensatory and punitive damages, and ordered the small airline to hire Pied. Aloha Island Air will appeal the ruling in state circuit court. Pied has an FAA waiver that allows him to fly one-eyed and currently pilots 747s for a cargo company. Aside: In this day and age, $1.4 million may be a small price for the airline to pay. If the guy crashed a plane, EVEN if it wasn't because of his hindered eyesight, the lawyers would clean out the airline for negligent hiring practices.

I'm changing my bearish stance to neutral today, or bull in waiting. I'm seeing real fear now, amateurs talking about shorting, and more bears then I have seen in sometime. Even some of the biggest of the bulls are worried now. Will we see more downside? There is a good possibility that we will. I wouldn't be surprised to see my worse case 2200 level reached. 2600 happen so fast, it just wouldn't surprise me that more work will be needed to remove the sellers in waiting. That said, in every drop some stocks bottom sooner then others, that's why I'm buying even I feel we could get more selling. Everyone needs to watch how the economic numbers come out. The best case would be more softening. We need to see more economic slow down so the FED will ease. The FED has the power and it always has. I will be fully bullish once the FED eases, until then I will be buying and adding selectively and shorting here and there as trades. Greg
