Minimum equity in a margin account is $2,000, unless the firm has established a higher requirement.

If market action brings your account below the minimum, that's okay, no action is necessary, as long as it doesn't also cause a maintenance call.

However, if your equity is below $2,000, you can take no other action that would reduce the equity...you can't withdraw money or securities, can't initiate transactions without depositing additional cash or securities, etc.

In order to do any of these things, you must reduce or eliminate the debit balance to keep the equity above $2,000.
