cth, A local radio talk show host commented that elections in Canada are also forbidden from employing the US custom of announcing election results in a piecemeal fashion using exit poll results from each of the various locations. The race to tally each state's electoral votes is, after all, of prime importance to US networks on election night. An argument the Busheys were apparently poised to use (in case things didn't work out in their favor) was that Florida's election results were announced prematurely, and incorrectly, hours before the polls closed in other key states, such as New Mexico, causing their supporters to think, "the heck with voting, my candidate's already lost." An argument could be put forth that this is indeed election tampering if one could show that it was done intentionally, to affect the election results (this is a purely hypothetical argument as we are all aware of the ultimate fairness and unbiased nature of the US media). Are predictions based on exit-polling (and we all know how painful that can be) allowed to be reported real-time in the land of the US's largest trading partner before closing time? cnk@spinningoutofcontrol.doc
