The thing to do as well is to place Stops when paper trading.

Some people do not like to use stops. You probably should employ them while paper trading at least. It's a good habit to get into. Some people actually place their stops before they enter their trade.

I guess that demo page for daytrading maintains your account status overnight, I thought it refreshed each day.

Seems without making any paper trades I went from 40th on the standings to 29th at this morning's Open.

Wonder how that happened, heh.
