It's not going to mean anything and it's kind of like a feedback signal.<<< No, I don't think it's funny that ANY candidate in a close election requests a hand count, especially given what we now clearly know about voting machine technology. And long-time politicos have known about the problem of voting machines for a long, long time. This is one of the reasons why hand counts got allowed in the first place. As we're learning from New Mexico, Florida is not the only state that allows candidates to request hand recounts in specific counties only. And that's all Gore did, under Florida law. And, of course, we all know the outrage which followed, this outrage charged by GOPwinger public relations. So, in answer to your question, Bush has every right to request his hand recount in New Mexico and I don't blame him for doing so. You really wanna know what I think is 'funny,' funny meaning hanky-panky like? The following: "Then Ms. Goard allowed Republican party functionaries to camp out in her offices for as long as three weeks, so they could add the missing identification, the depositions said. "Her counterpart in Martin County, Peggy Robbins, acknowledged this week that she let the Republican Party take away several hundred of the flawed forms. A party official there said the forms were taken to local party headquarters, where the missing numbers were added." Here's an operative line from above: "A party official there said the forms were taken to local party headquarters, where the missing numbers were added." Source: 12/02/2000, The New York Times, Page 9, Column 5 Since when do voters submit requests for absentee ballots to their respective government county voting office only to have those requests thereafter travel to Republican party headquarters? What Democrat taxpayer would approve of the Republican Party sharing in the mail delivery of the voter's request for an absentee ballot? Now ask yourself: What Republican taxpayer would agree to this? You think what happened here is funny? I bet you do!
