Thank you, mph. It did seem obvious by the sort of shuffling admission by the Gore att. that "we're on live TV" and the Bush attorney sort of smiling with an "oh brother" expression when he heard it, it was strategic! Had they been sincerely interested in moving the case forward swiftly, they would have stipulated (forgive me if I;m misusing the word; not an attorney) and gone on. What you are saying then, is that this reasoning (let the public hear it) is ok with a judge, that even if it isn't necessary, it's legit. Which is what I wondered. ANd also I was curious how people interpreted it. Thank you!
