The problem of the uninsured will continue to grow. Clinton proposed a partial solution which would allow uninsured over 55 to buy into Medicare. There were real benefits to this proposal but it was summarily dismissed by Congress. In my practice, I see clients who quit working and apply for Social Security Disability in order to qualify for Medicare. Some of these people would continue working if they had access to health insurance. I see other clients who become prematurely disabled because of the lack of health care. Those people drop out of the work force, stop paying into the system and start drawing benefits from the system. Nobody wants to discuss this issue.
