and then with high hopes of you becoming a convert you turn around, pat them on their heads and say, "bless you", as if you were really overflowing with virtue. Actually, I have no idea what you are talking about; But if it had been me speaking with them, I would not have been so rude nor so trusting, as to have my back to them, as you suggest in your comment. The point is that they came to try to convert you to salvation, out of their love for you, and their concern for your eternal soul--and you treated their kindness with contempt; And you dug in your heels, and ignored their message of Christ.
