I agree with you on several points. You are right.

Now, could we get back to eating balls?

I was listening to NPR's "The Connection" with Chris Lydon (sp?) and found out for the first time that Miami-Dade's 10,000 votes that the machines rejected haven't been counted at all. It could have been anything -- the machines were unreliable dang it. 10,000 votes that are just sitting there. Ooh I can't wait for the Freedom of Information act stuff which will allow these votes out after the election is done -- and when the counts will actually be done about when the Bush inauguration is going on . . . we'll talk about "stability" then . . . stability my foot, just how stable are we going to be if it is found that if those had been hand counted that Gore would have won? It is crazy, I cannot believe the news media -- they should be all over this story making Bush look bad instead of making Gore seem like a cry baby. I mean c'mon, the guy won the popular vote, he won the media centers . . . where are the editors and writers etc? And I still don't get the not counting 10,000 potential votes thing . . . the difference is 537 votes, and 10,000 votes wouldn't materially change the result?! Sickening . . .

On the other hand, maybe the news media is giving Bush the rope -- and after he's sworn in, then they'll come in with the real counts, the investigations into his finances (many times what Gore has), his life before he was 40, his contributors etc. Might be entertaining . . . Clinton's impeachment revenge . . . and this time we'd be able to talk about this with underage kids. :)

You make fine arguments.

However, the long and short to your questions resides in the weakness of the stock market. People are more interested in being "safe" than in being "free".

I know that there are many other factors for the weakness of the stock market, however perception is reality...

The former fortunes are disappearing and the gold laying goose almost got slaughtered in a mere 3 months. The perception of the general public is that the election created all this. At this point people simply know what they want. That is their pocket book.

p.s. I actually wrote a much longer post.... but... it is best to leave this as is.
