My research didn't yield any references to the network effect in the GG.

I couldn't find specific references to it either in the few minutes I spent trying to do so. You're probably aware that there is no reference to it in the index. My experience is that the index is often less than helpful.

I will be both shocked and apologetic to realize that I first learned somewhere other than in the manual that the value of network effects increases to the extreme rather than reverts to the mean. Regardless of where I learned it and whether or not Moore discusses it in those terms, I believe that Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, Siebel, Oracle and all the great Gorillas have gained sustainable competitive advantage partly from the network effects. That's because the network effect is what the value chain is all about.
