Peter,
there has been some discussion on SSF on SI.
try a search.
I recall some recent posts on The Final Frontier thread.
at first I was skeptical as well, but I think it could be good. Louis has insight as well.
I think the would settle to the underlying, not cash. BWDIK.
I think once stock traders figure out SSF don't require a downtick to short and don't require a borrow, they'll be all over it.
luckily margins are meant to be comparable to current or options would get hurt and there'd be a lot more speculation since futures margins are typically a lot, lot lower.

You know I cannot figure out why I would wish to do it.

Over the years there have been a boatload of Futures Contracts. All one needs is a down or sideways market and the market goes the way of the zoot suit. You need volume to trade this, and the way the market is heading I think these contracts may hit the elephant's graveyard quickly.

The only two guys I can figure that are interested in CSCO for example are Phoenix and Jorj X. McKie and those guys drink Lake Tahoe water so they may not live to see New Year's Eve.

Not that society would be done a disservice.....
