Dave, first of all, machines are more accurate than hand counts. You've probably heard the statements of select industy insiders, and have not heard the statements of others in the industry which disagree. Here is one example...http://www.reagan.com/root/chad.html

Secondly, when canvassing boards are made up of extremely partisan one party members. Reasonable standards cannot so easily be set. Setting standards after the vote has been cast, is tantamount to selectively assisting whom you choose to assist. Manual recounts were not the norm in Palm Beach and other places unless voter fraud and or machine problems had taken place. They had not in this case.

Furthermore, Miami-Dade wanted to conduct the process behind closed doors away from the camera's. So your assumption is wrong. Miami Dade went into hiding in a room full of Democrats with one or two Republicans. And although ignored by the mainstream press, those Republicans complained vociferously about the process and claimed fraud was taking place.

It may be allowed in the law. But we weren't arguing law. You were condemning people who think the process is flawed and believe Al Gore's methods have merit on their own. If we want to talk about law, let's talk about how the FLSC unsurped the LAW by changing it and allowing one deadline to be extended. Will they now change the deadline again and FORCE Miami Dade to count ballots even though the local Democrat officials who run the canvassing board, say is a waste of time? Not to mention the fact that the FLSC is made up of extremely partisan Democrats.

Ultimately, the law rests in the hands of the constitution. And the constitution is clear. the LEGISLATURE appoints delegates. Not the court.
