Chic, I realize this is the first time you have gone through a market correction, but some of us have lived through many of them during our investing careers. We've survived and learned from these experiences and developed our own approaches to dealing with unsettled markets. Don't you think it presumptuous for you to lecture this group on the basis of knowledge gained through history books, chat rooms, and 6 months of investing experience?

chic_hearne,

Don't you even start. You may be New to the Clown Killer thread and don't know we have a truce with them.....you might ask Colbalt Blue, or Alan Alias and many others that have since changed their names, which I notice they do often.

Every time I read this thread I'm stunned at how no one here is willing to face reality.

My suggestion is for you to stop reading this thread if it is stunning you too much.

Please pick up your toys and take them back over to the Clown Killer Thread. We are moderated and I don't want to have to moderate you.

BTW: We accept all opinions but not attacks from Clown Killers that feel it is their duty to save the porchers.

Here let me show you to the door.

chic ...."current state of the world economy"

it is a bit different this time, solely due to the fact that the global economy has never been so large, and with the influence of technology, it precludes the scalability based on historic empirical data.

not to say geo political forces can't create an over all sluggish global economy, but there does exist some inherent hedging of same through the very existence of multinational corporations.....

the overall economy both domestic and international has many times before been in a much sadder state....the key is inflation and rates, which go hand in hand....capital does not disappear it merely shifts to a more favorable location....

consumers will always consume, it is necessary for basic survival, and consumption is a major factor in production...

consumers consume, therefore producers produce....only variable is quantity.....can never go to zero....

Hi chic,

first of all, you are welcome here but I must admit I am just as stunned when I read such structured philosophy of the markets.

I will go to my grave fascinated how those of obvious intellect refused to look past ironically what they have READ about the past and see the market for what it is, an arena without sanctification and ruled by ever changing dynamics of Time and Psychology but more importantly ruled by the Powers That Be.

You will be partially correct in your doom & gloom forecast if and only if the FED ( one of the powers that be ) decides that it doesn't give a damn about growth and is only concerned with inflation. You will be correct if and only if the Houses ( one of the Powers that be ) decides like you to just put about 60 billion in govt. securities and wait out the fear. SOMETHING TELLS ME THAT WON'T HAPPEN.

Finally, you need to go back and tell your Bear pals that they need to go back to their Wharton School of Business like Schools OR TO THE SANDBOX where all of you could have learned psychological lessons that would have served you far better than that DEPRESSION 101 lesson you took in college and your memory keeps returning to.

There is no one less prepared for today's markets than those that live and guide their investment moves by the " THIS OCCURRED, THEREFORE IT WILL AGAIN ONE HUNDRED PER CENT OF THE TIME " philosophy.

I scanned the boards last night and all the bears were dancing in the streets about the INTC news while this Porch that you condemn said no problem and we would be going up.

Cheers and have some more lemonade.

I am even more amazed how everyone is so worried about the Porch and it's people, trust me, we have everything under control but thank those for their concern. When things turn for the worse if they do, WE WILL SEE THAT TO.

TYIA,

Voltaire
