Yep, the last American car I owned was in the 1980s. It was a lemon that lasted 6 months.

American auto makers target their substandard union products to low income people, joining tobacco companies and malt liquor companies in their organized cynicism.

And add one more tater to the fire.

IMO, the auto assembly and parts plants in Mexico, with their extremely low paying jobs, are used to offset the fat cat union shops IN the USA, and that speaks volumes to me. Check out the average wage of a Mexico plant worker.

The blue-collar workers of the city of Verdun, near Montreal, had been on strike for nearly two years. The Mayor of the city refused to give in to the strong arm tactics employed by the union and he had full support of its citizens.

The mayor wanted some flexibility in order to save costs, such as not being obligated to send employees to go out and water the plants on a day where there is torrential rainstorms.

One of the agreements signed between the union and the city some fifty years ago required that the city maintain a blacksmith on the payroll. The problem is that in the year 2000 there no longer is a need for a blacksmith so the city wanted the position abolished. Obviously, the union argued and insisted that the agreement signed 50 years previous be respected.

How can unions seek our respect when we hear of such blatant ridiculous selfish stupidities on their part?

Considering that 16.5% of the private sector are labor force are union members, and 38% of federal government workers are union, and 44% of local government workers are union. I don't think they are concerned with where the money goes...if they were, they would leave the union. And being that 50% of America approves of the political alignment of the Unions, your point is not valid. I am not a union member by choice because I disapprove of the way my money would be spent....I am the minority though in that I actually give a damn.

I kind of like my chrysler....have been a ford man up until I bought it.....never had an american car that was less than 30 years old..(I also own a '59 chevy and '70 buick) in the shop for the last 10 years due to anything above and beyond scheduled maintenance. I will buy american again.
KIA is trash, Mercedies is of questionable quality, as is BMW (my neighbor just put in a $1750 mufler on a 3 year old car!). I would never own an Audi. Pick ANY Russian car...not even worth the metal they're made of. Pick ANY Italian car, and you would have a better chance of winning on a $1 lottery ticket than trying to take a trip cross-country without breaking down. I could not afford a Pugeot...the maintenance that is. Suzuki makes toy cars...even they're bikes suck. Mitsubichi is renowned for transmission issues.
Now Honda, Toyota, and even Nissan are great cars (especially Toyota)...but being that these 3 cars are all UNION shops for cars made in the USA, your 2nd point is just plane silly!

Strange, US automakers have in fact INCREASED their share over the 10 years or so....after all they are the ones who cornered the SUV market early.
