Frank: In fact, both sides have been awakened. The left as much as the right. And that can be good for America, if emotions are kept in check. No one ... and I mean no one ... expected Gore to win more popular votes than Bush on Nov. 7. The reason for this, of course, is that as the right wing mobilizes, there's a corresponding, reactionary, necessary surge on the left. For every person that Rush Limbo "converts," there's another who says, "I simply hate the venom that that man spews forth." It all evens out. If not for the mobilizing by Repubicans, union activists would not have worked so hard to give Pennsylvania-Michigan to Gore.
