The Rules of Engagement are set and agreed by all parties prior to the event. Anyone who loses and wishes to change the rules after the event took place is nothing but a sore loser in my opinion and undeserving of any further consideration.

>>>Once again, neither Bush nor Gore, either alone or together, have the authority to even SUGGEST changes in law in the middle of the game. <<<

You're wrong, it was suggested on about the 10th, it would have been possible on the 14th if the SC hadn't extended the deadline.

Derek--thanks for the dissertation on the application of law. You mentioned: "Any government depends upon the faith of the citizenry that the institutions are not arbitrary." I agree. The sad fact is, though, that 1/2 the citizenry is going to be left feeling that their candidate was cheated--no matter what the result of this process. That could have been avoided had Mr. Bush agreed to Mr. Gore's offer to approach the Legislature and ask them to pass enabling legislation to extend the date to ask for a fair and impartial recount of ALL of FL counties--Republican and Democrat alike. This would have favored neither man, and would have left the citizenry with a much greater appreciation that their institutions were functioning fairly. As it is now, because Mr. Bush refused to agree, he's going to have a wounded presidency and a divided country.

But I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree....
