Re: Roe v. Wade.

I don't think even a conservative court would overturn the decision now, but what would happen if they did?

Would women stop getting abortions?

No, I don't think so, they would just have to go elsewhere. Mexico, Canada or the Caribbean are all places they could go. I think that even abortion ships in international waters would spring up.

Now you might say that this would only be available to "rich" women. But I think that many health plans would cover it. It's a financial decision and it's cheaper to send a woman from L.A. to Mexico for an abortion than it is to pay for childbirth and baby care. Right? And even if health plans didn't cover it, I'm sure that women's groups would get billions of dollars of contributions to fund "abortion trips."

Sound silly? Well so was prohibition and after the silly law was on the books for a while it was changed. I doubt that a ban on abortion would last either.

<<But the cloud of uncertainty surrounding this election cannot be swept by the Four winds. It is real, it is substantial, and those ballots that were never recorded will always loom large.>>

Our Oprah/Regis-doped public has just been indoctrinated by an ideologically unsound media that they MUST accept a president who committed several felonies, dragged his office through the sewer, and sent American forces to conduct a genocidal aggression. And you think they'll get exercised over Al Hunt and Jeraldo Rivera recounting Florida votes and declaring Gore the true president?? As they say on the stock boards: ROFLMAO!!

If all the names were reversed, this situation would probably have played out the same.

Not exactly.

Might have played out the same until it reached the Florida Supreme Court. But they would have come down 7-0 (or maybe 6-1) and ruled the 7 day time limit for certification inviolate. The election would have been over on September 14. The USSC would have had no role, since the State law existing before the election would have been followed, and the Constitution not violated because the scheme laid out by the legislature had been followed. End of case. President Gore.
