This may not be the preferred way but I think you can create a link in your /dev directory to the com port. I did it that way once and it worked. Don't remember the details.

In 95/98:
control panel=>system=>device manager=>mice (resources)

In NT 3.X/4:
Programs=>administrative tools=>Windows NT Diagnostics=>resources

In Win2K:
control panel(or programs)=>adminstrative tools=>computer management=>device manager=>mice (properties=>resources)

Unless you have an old computer, the mouse is most likely a PS/2 type, which is not connected to any COM port, but to a PS/2 mouse port.
