dvdw: I thought your analysis of the Williams piece was somewhat strident, but if nothing else, at least you're thinking ... offering up some intelligent analysis, unlike many on this board who are capable of only bashing or insulting.

Here's something else to consider: Perhaps similar to what you described can be accomplished through what used to be a strictly Republican ideology of states' rights. Indeed, perhaps states' rights will be used by left-leaning states to thwart a right-wing ideology imposed by a Republican Party that is hand in hand with the religious right.

Or, take it a step further. Perhaps the notion of "city rights" will come more to the forefront. There is historical precedent for such. When Missouri adopted its constitution in the early 1800s, St. Louis city had its own STATE LAWS on numerous issues. In other words, one set of laws for St. Louis ... and its particular problems ... one set of laws for the rest of the state. Perhaps more thinking along these lines is what we need in areas of gun control and such. Just a thought.
