Illinois was closed to deer hunting from 1900 to 1957. In 1957 1,700 deer were harvested. None in my county, my county wasn't even open that year. This year 1,800 were taken in my county by shotgun alone, about 120,000 statewide. Add in archery, front stuffer and handgun seasons and you can double that.

One buck went 400+ pounds. 25% of the Boone and Crockett listing now come from Illinois.
