MB,

I am not a citizen of the USA. My comment was not about the USA. It was a hypothetical question (note the use of the word may) about fair election principles in general, which are universal under all democracies.

However, I am curious. If the USA is not a democracy, then what is the political system in vogue?

Hi Mama Bear; Re: "Hmm, the last time a candidate lost the popular vote (by less than 10,000 votes) but won the electoral college was in 1888. It has happened 4 times (assuming Bush is sworn in) in 104 Presidential elections. Hmm, are you sure 'continual' is the right word?"

Do you have a link for that 104 number? It seems a bit large to me, but with how long the presidential campaigns last nowadays, maybe they slipped a couple elections in on us...
