does the popping noise i described mean anything to you? (i was going to add a snap and a crackle so we could all blame it on the breakfast cereal!)

and to answer an earlier question, yes win2000pro continues to impress. i just have been advised that another reason to move the swap file to its own partition is fragmentation. according to this individual, the swap file is a leading cause of fragmentation in win2000, and i have totally been noticing an increase in my time spent defragging. not only that, but norton speed disk seems to take longer to do its job in win2000.

i'll be moving the swap file to a separate partition real soon and i'll discover for myself if this is a valid remedy for what i would deem excessive fragmentation.
