Scumbria,
I'm not sure who will win this. I am sure that the Gore lawyers took a calculated risk to extend things back in the protest phase hoping to get enough votes in their column prior to certification with the idea that whoever is ahead at certification has the upper hand.

The FL Supreme Court extended the certification deadline, which may have been in error (i.e. unconstitutional) based on the US Supreme court's unanimous decision to vacate. They were asked to explain what law they used for that decision. The bad news for Gore is he didn't get the votes needed in predominantly Democratic precincts with very friendly counters. As a result Gore entered the protest phase as the loser and had lost time needed to protest.

The FL Supreme court decided on Friday to ignore the US Supreme Court request to explain under what law they extended the protest. Instead they let all of the votes counted in the protest count along with partial votes and late votes based on their own deadline be included in the totals for the contest. They ordered the lower court to order a hand count of all under votes in the State not previously counted.

If the FL SC choose to not explain their first decision, they should have ordered that Bush should have a 900+ lead today (what it was before they extended the protest), and that all under votes in all counties need to be hand recounted including the Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach ones that were added as part of the extended protest and Friday's decision. This would be devastating for Gore, because he would not have "friendly" counters counting. He would have less partial judges participating in the count.

I agree that Gore got the nationwide popular vote, but we do not choose presidents that way. I know that Bush has more certified votes in FL right now, and I believe that if the counting and legal decisions are fair and legal, he will still have more votes at the end of the process. I do not believe either Harris or Jeb Bush manipulated anything... Harris appeared to have followed the law, and the court appears to have turned it upside down. Let's hope we get this thing concluded this week.

Now since we can't impact what will happen, can we get back to discussing Intel (which we can't impact much either)?
Respectfully,
Nitt

"Bush received fewer votes in the US, and most likely received fewer votes in Florida."

Bush actually got more votes, they just weren't allowed to be counted. Both in Fl & the other 49 sensible states.
