Mephisto,

Thanks for the NYT article. I hope the Justices have had time to reflect and rethink their place in this matter.

But the harm they have done is irreparable, there is no way to finish the vote count before tomorrow's deadline. So the certification of Bush, and his subsequent term, will never have legitimacy, and in the future federal courts will feel obliged to participate in political elections, based on this precedent.

All that was needed was another 24 hours for the state to put an end to this mess, within the time period specified by the US constitution.

John

Mephisto,

The last time that the Republicans tried to tamper with a Presidential election was in 1972, and it didn't work out very well for them.

According to the Florida Election Board, it was most unfortunately that the information that was sent to the minority precincts was incorrect. In the information prior to Nov. 7, voters were instructed that they had to vote on all pages.

When voters arrived at the polls, they found a different ballot so if they had voted on all pages, it would have been an "overvote." This information was on national news last night.

This "news" didn't break last night- it was known for weeks now. But the one crucial piece of information you missed is that the erroneous "you must vote on every page" directions were given out by Democratic activists. (Mostly in Duval county) This mistake was made as part of the Democrat's record drive to turn out first time black voters. Some voters went to the polls and figured out that they shouldn't vote for two candidates, some didn't.
