Yeah. The seventh largest economy in the world, California, barely has the electrical generating capacity to run it. I heard a news blip that they fired up a nuke plant recently. Diablo Canyon I think. Give the tree huggers something to bitch about.

No kidding. Electricity in California is like rain in a dry Texas summer. Explosive growth of people, PCs, and industry while shutting down the older, polluting power plants. Less supply + more demand. They've fired up a couple of the old coal burners that everyone complained about.

Seattle is having problems also. They use dam/turbine generators and the lake is low. Last week they were asking people to conserve in order to fill the lake so they'd have enough generating capacity for the cold snap.

In Illinois I know of one new coal fired plant and another being built. Guess what? Those plants are and will be right in the middle of coal fields. Novel idea, build the plant where the fuel is.
