Star Wars was a nice flick, but I don't think one makes the top spot primarily through relentless motion and effects. What do you say about a film where the most sympathetic character was a Bissel vacuum cleaner that whistled.....

I know its a popular choice, but "Citizen Kane" just does it for me.

There are so many that I think its pointless to try and just get it down to one.

I think the best that could be done is to pick one best film for each decade in each class: drama, comedy, science fiction, true story, etc.

Another personal favorite is, "Treasure of the Sierra Madre". I am a big John Huston fan and really enjoyed his crazy autobiography. Any man that likes to drink and beat up his own friends is an interesting dude.
