This is another sad day in American history. Even the Supreme court of the United States couldn't make a definitive decision. They must have played "hot potato" for 2 days and finally decided to throw the potato back to FL just to take some of the heat off. The message they sent with it is that your out of time and can't fairly count votes anyhoo...but if you can do it by the 18th go ahead and try, Chuckle.
Interestingly, in the end it was Gores legal team that doomed him. The FL SC asked both the Dems and Pubs if they wanted a statewide hand recount. They both said no. That was the best chance the Dems had to get a fair count in under the wire. I guess Boies figured the could dupe the courts with the undervote count. Didn't fly with the USSC.
A big miscalculation by Boies.
Perhaps the moral of the whole thing is that given enough Lawyers and Judges you can screw up a good thing.

Jim

RE:"The only question remaining was how this could be anything but obvious to every reasonable person watching the travisty going on in Florida"

It appeared plain as day to us "stooges"...
Also the USSC "stooges". No disrespect intended.
The really smart guys had trouble with it...hummm.

Elmer - Re:"By a 7-2 margin the USSC agreed with the more reasonable opinions on the Intel thread that the divining of dimpled chads was bogus and a violation of the equal protection clause of the US Constitution."

Learn how to count!! The opinion was 5 to 4.

Dissenters Souter and Breyer wanted a single standard for all counties. Dimples would have been OK if all counties used the same rule. They indicated that the problems were caused by the interference of the Court and might have been fixed by the Florida court in the recount if the Court had allowed the count to finish.
