Acceptance speech? Just a second. let me pull this shotgun out of my throat. This is indeed a dark day in the history of the United States. I am staggering from illusion ripped away.

Okay, so I am an old hippie, complete w/ VW Bus Driver, CSNY is in the CD now, but get this: My son's name is, Justus. I chose to name my son Justus. Laugh with me, laugh at me, or else cry. I am fool who chose to harbor a beautiful illusion. I thought that our system may well have flaws, but it is the best system going, that ultimately it is trustworthy, sound, and good. I am not prone to nationalism, I find it divisive, but I took pride in our democratic system that I saw as exemplary, where justice ultimately prevails, and I felt lucky to be shielded by it. I actually trusted the sanctity of the Supreme Court. Now it is impossible to harbor that particular illusion. I chose to believe in Justice and I guess like any illusion, it made my world more livable, but I might as well have chosen to believe in Santa Claus.

"Even a dog knows the difference between being tripped over and being kicked," they said. We were goddamn kicked. We were beaten. We were robbed. We were raped. Republican dogs lap up the blood with relish. There is no refuge in the law. Justice is a sham. Nothing will heal my confidence! If we can't trust the Supreme Court, how can we put faith in local officials? Where is the check or balance in check and balance? Free us from judicial tyranny!
