I call myself moderate, although I have never voted for a Democrat in the presidential race.

The thing that disturbs me most is the division along "group" lines. The most disturbing of these is race. I believe we are quickly heading for a situation where the breach will become too wide to ever close - kind of like the Arab-Jew problems of the Mideast.

I believe "my" party needs to make some concessions in this area. I just don't know what they are. I was heartened to see that in Texas, where Bush is better known, Bush was able to get 30% of black votes. I hope that race issues are a top priority in the Bush White House.

My other suggestion would be for Bush to pardon Bill Clinton should the need arise.

Thank you for starting this thread, CB.

I await Bush's speech tonight, which I think will be gracious.

An article posted on the threads early this morning suggested that Bush should pardon Clinton if the latter is indicted. I agree with this. It would be a good move to put aside partisanship.

The radical elements of the Democratic party will do everything, within the next few months at least, to attack Bush and the Republicans. No one knows how effective they will be, but I suspect they will wear out their welcome in due course.

Of more immediate concern is Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and their ilk. They do so much to inhibit the advancement of black people, but they must answer some need their followers have. It will take a lot of work and a lot of trust, but this needs to be addressed.
