Ted, short term fluctuations are not accurate indications of economic tendencies. The effects of 1.5 years of dogged, stubborn hikes are becoming noticeable. The effects are evident in the slowing of earnings, and no industry seems to be immune. These are clear and scary signs of contraction. It was noticeable during the last quarter and it's obvious now. It will take longer for a reversal to take effect.
