Remember you get what you pay for. Norton had a team of antivirus engineers prior to acquiring IBM's. I think the stand alone program is $29 and if you purchase Norton Suite (with utilities) its $59 total.

It runs in the background but you need at least 128 meg to work ok (I'm assuming WIN 98 operating system). WIN2000 is a different program (which I don't use).

They have the best program integration with its other products and windows (or at least they did two years ago and as I've upgraded I've had no problems).

I'm not knowledgeable on this computer virus and hacker stuff, but I use products from this site.

zonelabs.com

They have both free stuff and products you can pay for.

Earlier today I downloaded an update to my McAfee Virus Scan and scanned the entire Dell computer, and it didn't find any viruses. Just to be thorough I bought a copy of Norton Anti-Virus and I couldn't install it because of McAfee Virus Scan. I tried to uninstall McAfee Virus Scan. It doesn't have an uninstaller; Windows won't uninstall it; McAfee Uninstaller won't uninstall it; and Ultra Winclean won't uninstall it. So I deleted it using Destroy-It and just tried installing Norton and it won't install because it says I already have an anti-virus program. Grrrrrrrrr.

I was just reading about new versions of Windows - they have made Internet Explorer an integral part of the program that can't be removed. Same with several other programs like their Media Player. Grrrrrrrr.
