It is one thing to be "anti-abortion" for oneself -- quite another to be "anti-abortion" for every woman. I think the argument is that if you're anti-abortion for every woman, you are setting rules for all women because of what you think is right or wrong and do not expect all women to be able to make choices for themselves. That is sexist.

And while I am at it, I have never quite understood how the same people who are against abortion are for the death penalty.

I am a single, heterosexual woman, and am against abortion (I don't like those catch phrases of "pro-choice, pro-life"...I prefer to call it what it is, "abortion")...

Greta, I take your point. I think the confusion is a matter of terminology.

In my experience, most people who are pro-choice are also anti-abortion. Most people, in general, don't like abortion. The choice question is about the role of the government and whether or not it can force a woman to either have a baby or abort it or whether it's the woman and her doctor who make the decision. I agree that there is an element of misogyny in those who oppose choice but I don't think that applies to those who oppose abortion.

Thank you, Greta, for your honest response on this very difficult subject. I believe it speaks volumes for what the right to have an abortion should be about. It is a right, not a forced choice. I very much appreciate your candor.

See post 517.
I didn't do it, but dammit, I want the right.
