Yes, we are essentially in agreement on abortion, it appears.

Re the death penalty: bland would not have phrased the way you have..."governments killing their own citizens"...because that actually happens and it has nothing to do with the administration of justice. Stated in those terms, it does seem more ominous than bland feels it really is because the idea of justice is absent from the definition. Bland would say the death penalty is society, not government, but society, through government, administering justice. Not revenge, not "getting back" at someone, but justice.

There are crimes that could be committed against an individual that bland loves, that could cause that individual such unusual suffering, and death, that bland would not be satisfied with incarceration, because he would want to know that it simply could not happen again, no possible way. As long as the perpetrator was just behind bars, there would still be no ultimate guarantee. Bland is too cynical regarding our courts and our prisons.

Victims are entitled to justice, if guilt is proven. And in bland's opinion, there are crimes for which capital punishment is justice.
