when i try to 'open' the recycle bin, nothing shows. yet when i go to empty it, i see there are 1500 files waiting to be purged. it isn't until i click 'norton unerase' that a wizard appears and displays all 1500 files for me to attempt to recover...

Kind of like what happened to me: I double-clicked on the icon and I got an empty window. When I pulled down the menu to select "Empty Recycle Bin", it asked me if I wanted to delete xxx files. So I know they were in there.

But now I am seeing the files listed in the Recycle Bin window. Maybe because I fooled around with the its attributes, using Turbo Navigator, a free file manager. Windows Explorer wouldn't let me change them. I didn't find any Take Ownership option anywhere.

i came across a file named 'recycle'. it's under (drive letter:)\winnt\media. the only reason i mention this is because if you follow the clickstream.... right click\properties\summary tab\expand origin .... you'll see 'ownership' attribute...

OK I just tried that. It's a .wav file, right? I followed your clickstream and expanded the origin. Here's what I saw:

Audio Format
Average Data Rate
Sample Rate
Audio Sample Size
Channels

... but no 'ownership' attribute.

W2000 is working great for me, I never boot into W98 and I don't miss it. Hope I don't have to reinstall.
