Another take on "the Great Communicator":

The President's Speech indiana.edu

I remember hearing Reagan announce his candidacy in '76, and thinking he was a good speaker. All my memories of him as President are less impressive, though, all stumbling and halts. "The Great Communicator" is a political tag, I don't think real historians go for slogans like that. Political flacks masquerading as "historians" are another matter, of course.

Cheers, Dan.

Poet - Yes, he actually said it. I remember it well. Have a couple more from the "great communicator":

"It's difficult to believe that people are still starving in this country because food isn't available."

"Abortion is advocated only by persons who have themselves been born."

... Mezz - What's scary is there are people who actually think he belongs on Mt Rushmore!
