DS, I've read discussions which claim database applications work better with SANs (vs NAS) due to block level transfers and constant reads & writes created by ongoing transactions. They claim that NAS is less efficient because the data must be encapsulated in ethernet packets and sent across the LAN where they are broken down by the filer. The process is repeated for data from the filer over to the application server.

At the same time, NTAP has seen their database filer sales increase dramatically.

Could you enlighten us on how the NTAP filer handles database applications? Please start with the request from the application database server. A sample layout of servers & storage would also help.

Thanks,

Duncan
