It's not clear from the text what or even if Moses had a problem that required Aaron to speak for him. A speech impediment would be a reasonable guess but not the only possibility.

Well, being a cracker hiding out up north, there might be some debate possible on Grant and Lee. Though I would never say Grant was not a capable man...there is room for thought that Lee did not have similar resources at the end.
