Not necessarily... particularly if the buying was done on margin AND unprotected without covered calls The selling could be caused by continued margin calls as the unprotected portfolio continues with its march to lower levels.

Did you mean 'protective puts' instead of 'covered calls' here?

You're right about selling puts, but I don't necessarily want to increase my holding in SUNW, I'm comfortable having it be only 33% of my portfolio. Buying the calls is my speculation that there will be a surge sometime in the next 30 days, like there was couple of weeks ago.

My diversification helps to limit the damage caused by any one stock falling out of favor, and keeps me sane.
